From L to R: SA Executives Tony Atkins, Bradley Lindsay, Evan Findlay, Joseph Prophet, Caroline Gagnon (Director), Dylan Smith, and Allen Depa.
School of Computing and Academic Studies Chair, Alexander Clarke, handed in his letter of resignation to SA President Dylan Smith just hours before council met on Monday October 20th.
According to President Smith, Clarke will no longer be attending BCIT, as he will be pursuing a different career path.
Clarke’s departure leaves the SA with the demanding task of putting together a by-election within the next 30 days in order to comply with by-law requirements.
As a temporary successor, Computing Science student and councillor Nav Bhatti was voted in during the meeting and will hold this position until election.
Bhatti actually ran against Clarke for the position of School Chair back in April, but Clarke came out victorious.
Evan Findlay, VP Student Affairs, will be the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) during by-election period. Findlay told Council he would have a date set and more details by next council meeting.
An election committee comprised of two councillors will also be formed.
Also brought up at the meeting was the motion to approve the first Sea-Shanty BCITSA Club. Josh McIntyre, who wished to practice singing marine-themed songs that contain nautical information, brought the idea for the Club to Council.
This club will be the first Club located at BCIT Marine Campus.
Council will meet again November 3th at 5:30pm.
